I’ve never been a big fan of quitting. And yet there are certain times when I’m faced with little alternative.  Specifically, having recently finshed the amazing journey of reading Richard Pevear’s incredible translation of Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov, I decided to attempt another classic work again translated by Pevear, namely, Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers. Bad move….I’m now 187 pages into it (the work runs about 675 pages total), and I’ve yet to connect with any of the dozen or so characters that Dumas has unsuccessfully attempted to introduce to me. Not only this, but I find myself thoroughly ambivalent toward the plot, setting, and almost all other literary features of the novel. I need your help! To do this, I’m going to use one of my new favorite online applications, SurveyGizmo, which allows users to freely create and implement online polls and surveys (many of which can be embedded in simply HTML code!)

Here it is! Thanks again!

Skiing at Big Bear

It’s only Thursday, and yet I have become acutely aware of the fleeting nature of Spring Break. I have just returned from a 4-day trip to Big Bear Mountain, where my roommates and I spent two days downhill skiing. For me, this was the first time I’d ever attempted skiing on any slope steeper than the gentle grade of my parents backyard. Needless to say, I”bit it” on numerous occasions, one of which was an inadvertent black diamond, which my roommate haplessly guided me down (if by “guided me down”, you mean “broke my fall”).

Not only did I “bite it” on the slopes this week, but so did my NCAA tournament bracket, thanks to local favorite USC, who could not even manage to defeat lowly #11 seed Kansas State, eliminating themselves from my Final Four picks this year. Wonderful, just wonderful.

Song Charts

The following may be the greatest blog posting I’ve ever seen. Apparently, there is a Flickr group entitled Song Charts which is exactly that. The original post is courtesy of Meredith at never slap the gift donkey. I simply connected the images with their coinciding audio tracks which other users have already put online. And now, geeks, let us enjoy!

My New Webcam

Like I said, this week has been extremely long. Both of my planning periods this week got completely eaten up by department chair responsibilities, meaning each day was a constant “Go!” right from 8am to 3pm.More later….meanwhile, enjoy the way I’m feeling right now!
