I’m all for seeing live music. In fact, I’m all for seeing live music, especially when it’s free. One of the best parts of Los Angeles is that we are home to Amoeba Music (a ginormous independent record store), which frequently hosts free concerts right in the store. (The audience actually lines up amidst the rows and rows of CDs, cassettes, and LPs.
And while I’m always up for hearing and experiencing something new, last night’s MURS concert at Amoeba reaffirmed my distaste for most (albeit, not all) hip-hop. Honestly, I’m much more looking forward to next Tuesday, when Jackson Browne will play a free set there.
And while yesterday I was reminded of what I didn’t like, I also ended up digging up an old memory of something I did like, the country song Eastbound and Down, from the amazing film Smokey and the Bandit. Too bad Jerry Reed doesn’t play Amoeba shows anymore.
