We’ve finally hit our full stride at Cochran, finishing with a full three weeks of school. I have successfully and indefinitely delayed the onset of boredom as my students have found the process of adding and subtracting integers to be somewhat exciting, all thanks to my colleague, Mr. Castaneda’s adding integers song (sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat):

Same sign, add and keep / Different Sign Subtract /

Take the sign of the higher number / Then you’ll be exact!

We’ve not yet sung it in round form yet, maybe a bit later in the year.

Yet, one of the things that goes hand-in-hand with hitting full stride at school is completely filling up all the rest of my free time with stuff to do, which is wonderful. Thus, instead of sleeping in this morning, which I SHOULD have done, I end up playing a round of golf with 3 colleagues from Cochran. Definitely worth the price of admission, including the associated opportunity cost for all of my economist readers.

What does it all mean? Well not much, except that it’s now pushing 5pm, and I’m strongly considering taking a nap…

Southern California summer is a time for golfing (as is spring, fall, and parts of winter). My third time out on a course this year proved a slight improvement, as I found myself being able to definitively hit many decent shots. The trick is, to be able to string those shots all together on the same hole. However, much like my boys in orange and blue who can somehow manage 7 hits without scoring a run, my great shots seem to always be mitigated by 4-putts, pulls left, and drives that travel just past the ladies tees. Luckily, I lost no golf balls and took no mulligans so I’ll at least chalk it up as a moral victory.

Summer is also the time for ridiculously amazing cover songs, the one here being discovered barely a few hours after golf, thus ending the day on a much needed positive note.
