I have GOT to get me one of these vuvuzelas, those plastic horns that have that World Cup attendees are blowing incessantly during the matches. Costing around $7 and exploding forth with a volume nearing 130 decibels, that’s only little over five cents per decibel (0.05 dpd).

In the event that I’m not able to purchase one for use against my sleeping-in-class students, I can simply shell out a wad of cash for an iPhone, an then download the new vuvuzela app, which recreates the sonority of the aforementioned plastic trumpet. Unfortunately, at only 90 decibels, and all costs considered, the app rings in at a rate of 21.5 dollars per decibel, nearly 43,000% more expensive than the South African original.

No thanks, Apple.

I watch soccer football every four years when the World Cup inevitable draws my interest in the way that the Olympics used to. The best part about living is that I can actually watch the action live from the comfort of my own couch (or front porch, should I decide to meander with my laptop out to the out-of-doors). Yet, nothing is quite so enthralling as watching the matches with a group of rabid American fans who will (from time to time) simply burst out in singing patriotic music. I never knew we liked soccer football so much.
