To the families of the entering 7th students of Cochran Middle School:
Hello! My name is Mr. Hunsberger, and I’m currently the 7th grade math teacher in the “House of Phoenix”. This letter is to inform you that it is very likely that I will be your child’s math teacher this year. Let me first say how excited I am as we approach the beginning of another school year, and that I am greatly looking forward to helping your child succeed in amazing ways this year!
I will be honest. Math can sometimes be a challenging subject for students, and sometimes students have difficulty mastering the material. But I want you to know that I work my absolute hardest to allow the opportunity for your child to excel in the course. For example, in the past few years, I have seen dozens of students gain both high grades, as well as gain confidence in their ability to learn difficult material in school. As your child will experience, success will take great amounts of effort, but it is that kind of effort that has led my classes in the past years to have some of the top math scores in the entire school!
There will be many opportunities for you to interact with class, but the primary way will be through a website where you can get information, ask questions, and even check your child’s grade. The website is already up and running. Feel free to visit it anytime. The address is www.hunsbergermath.com
Finally, I am assigning a short summer math packet for your child to complete before he or she returns to school. It will be due on Wednesday, September 3rd, the first day of school.
- If your child had Ms. Christianson or Ms. Norris last year, they should have already received the packet in their class during the final week of school. (The front cover may look slightly different. The math problems are the same).
- If your child did not receive a packet already, I’m enclosing a copy of the packet for them.
- You may also download the summer packet here in three forms (Word, .PDF, and Picture files)
Please communicate to your child the importance of this first math assignment. It will count for a grade. It is fully expected to be completed and turned in on September 3rd.
Thank you again! I am greatly looking forward to meeting you and working with your children to help them achieve great things in math this year. The best way to get in touch with me is through the website (you can leave a comment or a question). I welcome your comments and your questions. Enjoy the rest of summer and we’ll see you September 3rd!
Sincerely,
Mr. Hunsberger
