HOW TO READ YOUR MATH GRADE!!!
“How close am I to an ‘A’?”
“What will grade be if I turn in all my missing work?”
These are questions that are frequently asked by students. The reality is that you can figure this out for yourself!!!!!
Here’s how:
The two most important numbers are the two numbers under the place it says “Overall”.
The first number represents the number of points YOU HAVE. In this case, this student has earned 1012 points.
The second number represents the TOTAL number of points you could have earned. In this case the student could have earned a possible 1180 points.
To find what you need to earn an “A”:
- Multiply the TOTAL number of points by 90% (which is an A).
- So in this case, to find how many points he needs to get an A, he would multiply (1180)(0.90).
- Since (1180)(0.90) =1062, this student needs 1062 points to get an “A”. Since he already has 1012, he only needs 50 more points.
- HINT: To find what you need to get a “B” multiply the TOTAL by 0.80, to get a “C” multiply the total by 0.70, to get a “D” multiply by 0.60
What will my grade be if I turn in 9 missing assignments:
- Multiply the number of missing assignments you plan on turning in by 5 points each. In this case, turning in 9 missing assignments earns this student an additional 45 points.
- Add that number to the number of points you already have. In this case 1012 + 45 = 1057.
- Take that number and divide by the TOTAL number of points to find your new grade. 1057 / 1180.
- Since 1057/1180 = 0.8957, turning in 9 missing assignments would increase this student’s grade from an 86% to an 89%.

if i turn in a missing assinment and it is for half credit wiil it come up to reach a full homework assinment
No. Once an assignment is graded as receiving “half credit”, it will remain half credit. That is why it is so essential to turn in all your homework on time!
